Flamingo, a brand under Harry’s, Inc., is using its platform to challenge the societal norms that silently govern women’s bodies. The company recently launched a new podcast, Unruly, aiming to shine a light on the subtle ways women’s bodies are regulated, often subconsciously molding women’s perceptions and feelings about themselves.
The podcast, produced by Pineapple Street Studios, an Audacy subsidiary, is hosted by Kimberly Drew, a renowned author, curator, and critic. It promises to stimulate enlightening discourse on topics often brushed under the carpet, including the influence of social media, the beauty industry, and medicine on women’s bodies.
The first episode, “Social Media: The Body’s Big Brother,” features a discussion with body image coach Tiffany Ima about body neutrality and the internet’s pervasive role in shaping women’s self-perception. The concept of body neutrality, which Flamingo ardently champions, advocates for an emotionally and physically neutral stance towards one’s body. It’s a less familiar term than body positivity, but one that the company has supported through over $1.5 million in donations to related programming since 2019.
Future episodes will delve into topics like wellness capitalism, menopause, egg freezing, and host influential guests like Jessica DeFino, Rachel E. Gross, and Dr. Marcia Inhorn.
Since its inception in 2018, Flamingo has been a sounding board for women’s concerns about their bodies and daily routines. The brand has consistently found that women’s needs and experiences are often overlooked in the personal care industry and beyond. Unruly aims to change this narrative by empowering women with the information they need to make informed decisions about their bodies.
